St George Half Marathon (13.24 Miles) 01:27:26, Place overall: 7, Place in age division: 1 | | Ok, I'm glad I was able to go down and race. It had been a rough last 2 weeks with sickness. Feeling OK about the race and happy I placed first in my age group. I didn't have a lot of expectations going into the race, I thought I would try and keep the pace at around 6:30-6:35. I fell off the pace a little bit in miles 10-12, I need to work on that in my training. This was still an improvement from the Snow Canyon Half I ran in early November even though the time doesn't reflect that but this was a harder course. So hoping I can start stepping up my training in this next session.
The gun went off and I tried to keep it in the 6:30s here's splits for the first half, 6:24, 6:33, 6:26, 6:28, 6:29, 6:40, 6:43 miles 6 and 7 had some good uphill.Mile 8 6:35, mile 9 6:32. Then I got to complacent and let the next 3 miles slip away from me and didn't push like I should've, 6:52, 6:50, 6:54 This is the part of the race i need to work on I need to push through ALL miles. The last mile I woke back up, got back to 6:29, and ended up passing the girl that was in my age group for first.

| | Today I was thinking I would do some 400s but then decided to do a tempo instead since i didn't really have a good place to do the 400s. The tempo was just going to be based on how I felt rather hitting a certain pace. I tried not to look at my watch while I was running. Splits (6:30, 6:34, 6:28, 6:20)

SLCTC Winter 5K (3.14 Miles) 00:19:06, Place overall: 6, Place in age division: 1 | | This was a PR for me, so I'm happy with how it turned out. I was so close to breaking 19 minutes I wish I would've realized that sooner in the race and went for it. I tried not to look at my watch during the race and just go after it. I was shocked at the pollution out there, it did not do wonders for my lungs. 5Ks just feel fast to me now and are over so quickly. I enjoyed the flatness of the course though. I wish I knew my exact splits but my watch is on the fritz right now and I need to get it figured out so I can retrieve my race results. But overall happy with how my race ended and there was a lot of fast competition in both the mens and womens races. Happy for Riley who won!

| | I went to HAFB again today to do a workout on the treadmill. I did 6x1000, what I actually did was 5:52 pace on the treadmill for 3:40 six times with 2 minute jog in between, (not sure if that makes sense). I don't know how to adjust treadmills to do the workout I want and I didn't have time to figure it out. I cut my cool down short because I had to use the restroom.

| | I did a workout today with Angie. I was supposed to do 4 sets of 800/400/200/1000. But my time was limited so I only got through 3 sets, and Angie finished out the last set on her own. We did a 2.2 mile warm. Here's the workout splits 2:59(2 min rest)/1:24(1:30r)/.43(1minr)/3:51 (3minr) next set 3:01/1:26/.45/3:47 last set 3:00/1:29/.45/3:48. We were right on pace for where I wanted to be I wish I could've finished that last set but oh well pretty happy with the workout considering I've never been great at doing these types of set workouts.

| | I decided to workout today and wednesday this week because I'm running Dogtown half on Saturday. Monday workouts are hard for me. I'm coming off of eating way too much Sundays and no running. This workout didn't seem like it would've been hard but it felt hard. The plan was 2x2miles at 6:15 with 3 minute jog in between. Splits were (6:16,6:17) then (6:14, 6:14). Dogtown Half Marathon (13.2 Miles) 01:25:09, Place overall: 7, Place in age division: 1 | | I'm glad I got another PR for the half marathon my training is just getting better and better. This course was a lot harder then I thought it would be. The first 5 miles wasn't a straight downhill like I thought it had rolling downhill. Then after mile 5 I felt like I was working hard the rest of the race to keep up with the rolling course. Miles 9 and 10 had a really good uphill. Then I tried my best to race in the finish after that. I couldn't ever get into a steady rhythm. My splits are kind of all over the place not the smartest race. I wasn't trying to push hard at the start I was going by feel. But with the course being up and down this is what I ended up with. 6:01, 6:10, 6:12, 5:58, 6:19, 6:24, 6:36, 6:14, 6:35, 7:11, 6:43, 6:47, 6:32.
The reason I went down and did this race was because it was part of this triple crown series that this law firm, 1law,was advertising. They were offering $1,000 to overall male and female winners, who had run snow canyon half, st. george half, and dogtown half. They were going to base it off of how you placed in each race. I wasn't going to be the overall female winner but I knew I would be second. So I had been emailing this guy in charge of it and asking if second place of the triple crown was getting money. He did email me back about a week ago that "I could get $100-$200." So we decided to come down, race and see. Turns out they didn't give the money out they had originally advertised. Ben VanBeekum was the overall male winner of the triple crown and they gave him $250. A little less then the grand they said orginally. I came away with nothing. But after the efforts of Spencer Simpson and Nikki VanBeekum things got straightened out a little more and Ben ended up with $350 and I got the $100 I was promised in an email after the guy pulled up his email and saw that's what he had said to me. Poor Ben still didn't get the oringinal money he was told by the people working for 1law though. Hopefully that group will be more organized next year.

Phoenix 10K (6.36 Miles) 00:39:11, Place overall: 1, Place in age division: 1 | | Today's race was a great confindence builder for me. I actually felt good the whole race got after it and competed. The course was flat and a little long, I think I would've broken 39 minutes had the course not measured long. But still a great race for me. My second PR in 8 days. (different distances of course) The last time I ran a 10K was back in 2011 at South Weber days I think I ran 42 something. But today the temperature was good, a little windy and rainy but not to terrible. There was one girl ahead of me at the start of the race but I focused and kept slowly reeling her in. I passed her up at mile 4 and put a gap on her. I'm not gonna lie, it felt a little good to do that. I'm usually the one people are blowing by at the end of a race. Short cool down for me today with Andrea and Jake. Today's race was doubly awesome because Riley won the marathon! He looked so relaxed coming in I thought he was finishing a half marathon rather then a full. I'm so proud of him! Also, my mom, aunts, cousins, and in laws were at the race cheering us on so it was good day for us! Now we're in a hotel in Las Vegas ready to head home tomorrow. Here's my splits for today, 6:14, 6:13, 6:17, 6:17, 6:05, 6:02, .36 2:00.

There was wind this morning in South Weber which isn't a surprise so I picked a loop that had the least amount it wasn't to bad. Splits: 2:06, 2:03, 2:06, 2:02, 2:05, 2:04, 2:04, 2:04, 2:04, 2:04. Striders 10 Miler (10 Miles) 01:06:13, Place overall: 4, Place in age division: 1 | | Wow that was a tough course! I was definately hurting. I don't know if I would've run as fast if I didn't have Dave and Jason running with me as part of their easy run for the week. Thanks Dave and Jason for getting me through that! I was not good company in that race with my labored breathing but they were patient and helpful. Riley is still taking time off so he took some pictures which I'll post. I started out well and my first really big up hill on 36th street ended up being decent effort. But the next hills up 4600, and past Beus trailhead I fell off my pace and that hurt me with my overall place finish. I passed the third place girl after that then Jasmine passed me shortly after that and I couldn't catch her. I'm really happy with my overall time I was hoping for 1:07 and was well under that. Here's my splits: 6:18, 5:53, 6:19, 6:22, 7:18, 7:25, (these were the first steep miles), 8:10 (Yikes! not a good uphill mile for me.) 5:47 (downhill) 6:17, 6:39 (not a great finish I couldn't get up that last hill.) But overall happy with the effort and time. I ran this course 3 years ago and ran 1:17 so I'm definately a lot faster now then I was then. Jason and Dave running with me a week after their marathons.

| | I've been walking with a limp since Saturday after my run. My sciatic nerve is hating me right now and suddenly flared up at the very end of my long run on Saturday. This happened last May, except I didn't know what was going on then and after several weeks of not running I went and saw an athletic trainer and got some stretches to do that started relieving my pain pretty quickly. I'm hoping I can get this taken care of with some stretching, icing, heat this week and get back to it the next week. We'll see.....
| |
| | Cross training on stationary bike for 45 minutes. Still waiting out my sciatic nerve to stop shooting pain up and down my leg when I walk.
| | Biked today for 35 minutes, that's all I could fit in. When I can't run I have no motivation for cross training. So this week has been kind of a bust. But yesterday Angie let me come use her inversion table a couple of times. Her husband had sciatic nerve problems and recommended using it and some stretches with an excercise ball. This morning I have felt better then I have since last Saturday. Hopefully tomorrow will feel even better and I can run a little.
| | Got out to the gym this morning for some cross training. Elliptical irrates the nerve a little bit so I did a combination of elliptical and bike for an hour. I did try running on the indoor track but I can't still. Until the sharp pain in my lower back goes away I can't run. I'll just keep trying a combination of stretches, exercise ball, and inversion table to get this pain away. But i'm afraid it will take time. I don't know how much time at this point last time this happened it took a few weeks but I didn't know what it was then and how to fix it. I'm hoping this time pain will stop soon because it's getting frustating doing day to day tasks such as walking and lifting my 1 year old in constant pain.
| |
| | Hopefully this week will be a new beginning and I can get back into training. I saw a Chiropracter on Friday and I felt like he fixed me. He said my tail bone was out so he readjusted my spine and over the weekend felt much better. I can walk normal again. I saw him monday and everything looked good so he said I could start running this week a little at a time. So I tried walking and jogging a mile. There is still some soreness there. Hopefully that'll go away this week with some stretching.
| |
| | Ran another mile today on the treadmill to test the waters. I ran more during the mile today then I did yesterday it felt better. I have a lot of tightness in my right glute still which is keeping me from running all out at the moment, hoping to continue to work through it this week.

| | WARNING: this is a "woe is me" post. I ran a mile tonight and still have pain. The frustrating thing is that I don't feel anything until I start running. At least I can do my day to day activities pain free but can't run pain free. It took me a little over a year to get to where I was before getting hurt. After 13 months and 70 lbs later I'm sidelined by an injury. I'm not sure when I will be able to run pain free but I'm going into my fourth week feeling depressed and pessimistic. Sorry to be a downer. Maybe I'll feel better tomorrow but at this moment I'm doing everything in my power not to make a huge pan of brownies and eat it all in one sitting. |

| | I did my first workout today since the injury. I wanted to keep it controlled just so I can see how my sciatic will react. I did a 3 mile tempo after a 1.3 mile warm up. Ended with a two mile cool down. 6:44, 6:35, 6:40. I can tell my fitness is down but that's to be expected. Happy with how it felt, sciatic didn't flare up during the run.

| | I did an interval workout this morning 8x400 with 90 sec. jog in between. Splits 85, 85, 86, 84, 85, 84, 84, 84. I was happy I was consistent. I wasn't sure how fast I should do them but that was about right.

| | 4 mile tempo run in my South Weber neighborhood. I wanted to stay around 6:40ish, still easing back into workouts. Splits 6:38, 6:42, 6:42, 6:36. Felt pretty good except the sections into the wind.

| | Easy run around South Weber, I had some soreness in my back today or I would've gone 5 miles. But I'm trying to be conservative.

| | 8 mile aerobic builder in st. George this morning. Windy conditions and I had some uphill to battle. I have never had great workouts Monday mornings coming off of the weekend. Today went better then I thought but not great. AP was 7:02. I'm still finding my way back to the shape i was in before injury. I'm hoping to average 6:50s for the Ogden half. This was a good indicator that I maybe could do that considering the course I ran today was not easy. |

| | Ran on a hilly course in san Diego this morning. Yesterday on our way here we were stuck in a hellish 4 hour traffic jam. There was no way out of it. |

| | A workout today in san Diego. I did 2x2 miles and ended with 1 mile. I couldn't find a place that was flat. So settled with uphill for my first set and worked on my downhill running the second set. My last mile was gradual uphill. Splits: (6:30,6:35) (6:16, 6:21) 6:03. 4 minute jog between set. 3 minute jog before mile. |

| Race: |
Ogden Half Marathon (13.1 Miles) 01:25:18, Place overall: 5, Place in age division: 1 | | This was my first time running the Ogden Half and I loved the scenery. I ran the Ogden Marathon a few years back but didn't enjoy running down Ogden canyon like I did today. I felt the downhills today on the course and remember thinking, "where were these hills when I ran the marathon?!" Today, I wasn't expecting much since I'd only been back to training hard in the last 3 weeks from taking 4 weeks off with a sciatic nerve injury. Riley encouraged me not to wear my watch so I didn't stress about pace and just run off of feel. It's really nice running a race with no pressure or expectation. I took the first 5 miles easy and then decided to work the canyon portion of the race. I looked ahead and just slowly started picking off people. When I got out of the canyon and onto the parkway I started feeling fatigued and by mile 11 I was hurting and hoping to hang on and finish the race. It was a slower finish for me but that'll come back again with more running. I was surprised to see my time at 1:25 when I ran in and am way happy with it! 4 out of the top 5 women places today were taken by utahrunning.com elite team wahoo! Special shout out to my friend Katie Thompson who won! She's not on the blog but a great runner I'm happy for her today! Here's some pictures taken by Riley today.

| | I ran with Sariah this morning, I decided to try and do what I thought would be an "easier" workout just to get my legs going. After a 2 mile warm up we did 8X200m hill repeats up burch creek trail. I haven't done hill repeats in years. My legs didn't hurt so much as I was breathing SO hard on each hill repeat. I thought 200m wouldn't be a big deal but this turned out to be one of the hardest workouts I've done in a long time. I can tell I'm lacking in both speed and strength still. I didn't worry about time I just ran up hard, then jogged down, and started again. Cool down back to Katie's house.

| | I haven't felt good since the Ogden half. I was supposed to do a long workout today 4-3-2-1 but felt like garbage. I did the first 4 at 6:32, 6:39, 6:33, 6:41 this set felt hard for some reason. I started the next set but fell off pace within the first half mile so I just scraped it and called it a slow 4 mile tempo. My legs feel like they weigh an extra 15 lbs each. Hoping to feel better soon.
| | Pushed the kids on the parkway with Sariah this morning, we could only fit in 6 miles. I might try to get a couple more miles in later.

| | I'm still feeling crummy with my running. Each interval in my workout today seemed like a challenge. I'm in some kind of mental funk right now. Hoping to get out of it soon. I probably need a few days with just easy runs. Here's my workout today: 1000-3:36 4X400 83, 84, 86, 85, then 4x200 (felt so hard) 39, 37, 38, 38. That's all I could muster today.

| | I met up with Sariah early this morning to do a workout. She did an easier tempo I did 14 1min on/off pick ups AP 6:51 for the pickups. It was the first day in awhile I felt good. I'm supposed to run Utah Valley half this weekend and today I finally felt like I can get through it ok. I have no expectation for this race since the last three weeks haven't gone well plus we were in California for 1 week so my training wasn't there. I probably won't wear a watch again.

| Race: |
Utah Valley Half marathon (13.1 Miles) 01:28:54, Place overall: 11, Place in age division: 1 | | This was not my best race. This was my first bad race of the year. The last three weeks I'd been struggling and I didn't have high hopes for this race. Katie stayed with me at my grandparents house and we rode to buses where we met up with Sariah. We got there and felt the wind blowing and I realized Riley was right, there was going to be a headwind in the canyon today. He says this happens every so often and it happened to be race day that it happened. We did a two mile warm up and some strides. I didn't wear my watch again hoping that would help me like it did at Ogden half (it did not). I ran with a girl for the first four miles she said that our first mile was 6:24 and our second was 6:35. Those are the only splits I know. I felt OK while I was running through the canyon but I could feel I wasn't running as fast as Ogden a couple weeks ago. I tried picking people off in the canyon but they were all to far ahead. I got one guy in a green shirt. Out of the canyon around mile 8 I got a massive side ache, I was nursing it for the next mile and it caused me to slow down way to much. It was painful and it now effected my time even worse. So I turned my race into a faster long run at that point and basically just finished. Not a good day for me but hopefully I can come back from it soon. I did a mile cool down with Katie and then another mile by myself so I could meet up with Riley and cheer for the marathoners.

| Race: |
South Ogden Days 5k (2.78 Miles) 00:17:55, Place overall: 2 | | I signed up for this race a couple weeks ago for fun. My daughter ran the kids K and did awesome, I was worried I was a little too competitive in her race. I may or may not have yelled the words, "lean into the hill!" "Get that kid!" "Beat your cousins!" Yikes, I need to tone it down a bit she did great. Her race was basically my warm up, after the kids race I found Sariah and we warmed up 5 more minutes and did a couple strides. This race was for fun so we didn't care a whole lot how warmed up we were. Sariah went out with me at the start and as soon as we hit the first hill she took off. After I passed the first mile I knew the race was going to be short. But I just kept going with it. When we hit the second monster hill I slowed down a ton so my second mile was slow. But I picked it back up the last .78 of the race and was going 5:54 pace and feeling strong, so I feel confident I would've been just over 19:00 with my other two mile splits of 6:27, 6:51. That was my workout for the week.

| | I got up at 5 today to do my workout. Bright and early. I'm not much of a morning person but I've been forcing myself to be while Riley is injured so I can get my runs done early. I drove and parked at my in laws house and did the South Ogden tempo loop today. I ran a 2.15 warm up. The plan was to do a tempo run based on feel. It turned out ok for the early morning 6:34, 6:33, 6:37, 6:31. I jogged for 4minutes then did 4x400s with 90 sec rest. 81, 80, 82, 83. That last 400 was into the wind and it felt sooo hard.

| | The intention was to do my long run today. I wanted to get 17 miles in with a 10 mile aeorobic builder in the middle. My achilles has been sore for the last two days but I thought it would warm up and go away. I ran a three mile warm up and the plan was to average 6:45-6:50. I was feeling really good except for my achilles. After about 3 miles on pace and feeling relaxed it started effecting my stride and speed. I was compensating on my sore achilles too much. I went back and forth for the next few miles still wondering if I should stop, I really wanted to do this workout and I was feeling good but I decided I couldn't put up with another 8 miles with a little limp. It felt like I sprained my ankle. After about another 3.5 miles I decided I needed to end it and take tomorrow off. There is some swelling on my left achilles so hopefully some ice over the weekend will help and I can run on Monday. Here's splits for my 7 miles of aeorbic builder 6:43, 6:44, 6:44, 6:56, 7:00 6:55, 7:11. The 4th mile was when it started effecting my stride and then my pace.

| | Swollen foot still. Not sure how it happened, no running...
| | Foot is getting better so I tried running today. There is still some swelling which is noticeable when I put my shoe on. I'm supposed to run the Blaisdell 5K this weekend. I may still try and do it.
| | My foot is feeling a lot better today. This will be interesting to run a 5k off of not much from the last two weeks. Its just for fun anyway. Coach blaisdell is retiring from Weber state coaching and we're celebrating by holding a 5k. Good man! |

Blaisdell 5K (3.27 Miles) 00:21:37, Place overall: 3 | | Ran a race today on the Weber State Campus for Coach Blaisdell's retirement party. Hilly course, I was tired from not running for 2 weeks. My foot was ok during the race. It was fun to see a lot of people I hadn't seen for awhile. The first hill was downhill and the rest felt like a lot of uphill to me, I couldn't get my legs going, not a very fast time but I'm not really worried about it. It was a fun race today.

South Weber days 10k (6.17 Miles) 00:41:16, Place overall: 1 | | I was nervous to run this race today because I haven't been doing any workouts. I've been running and running pregnant is new for me, so racing pregnant was even newer territory. But turns out its not a big deal. I really wanted to do this race because of the cash prizes. I got $100 for winning which made my day. I started out the race comfortable because I knew I would be running up some good hills for the first two miles. I noticed there weren't any other women close to me once the 12 year old boys were all weeded out. So I knew I could relax and run a good race. I wanted to keep a steady pace. After I got past the hills it was smooth sailing and I enjoyed the race. I wanted to keep my miles under 7 minute pace on the up hills, which I did. I'm happy with how the race turned out. I ran this race three years ago and was over 42 minutes.AP 6:41. Splits were 6:41, 6:52, 6:39, 6:40, 6:46, 6:39, .57 |

The Layton Classic (3.29 Miles) 00:21:28, Place overall: 4, Place in age division: 1 | | I had fun running this race today. I felt good and was pleasntly surprised I ran faster then I did last year. They did change the 5k course a little bit to accomodate the 10k course. The start was further back then from last year but all the miles were pretty much the same. The 5k course ended up being a little longer. I clocked it at 3.29 on my garmin and Angie had 3.24. I only did about 1.5 mile warm up because I was helping out with some of the race stuff. I got into the race and felt nice and relaxed for my first mile. The second mile has a gradual uphill and then a steeper uphill, but I was still feeling ok. The 3rd place girl was about 20 seconds ahead of me the whole race. I couldn't quite make up any ground on her. My AP for the race was 6:32, much better then I thought I could run and faster then my AP from last years race. My mile splits this year: 6:27, 6:41, 6:23, .29 - 1:57. My splits from last year were 6:23, 6:43, 6:44. I ran the last mile much better this year.

| | Ran in South Weber today. I felt ok I was supposed to go early with my running group but I didn't feel well and was way to tired to get out of bed. Plus I can't keep up with them anymore. I feel like I've gotten heavier and heavier everyday I ran this week. But I'm trying to keep going. My goal today was to get 7 miles in an hour. AP 8:40.

| | Ran with Sariah this afternoon at 4. Our husbands were home early today so we took advantage of this beautiful december weather. We wore shorts and a t-shirt for our run. I wonder what people think when they see us run by, do they think, "good for them," or is are they thinking "these women our hurting their unborn children, they're terrible." We were fine except for the very urgent and sudden bathroom break I needed to take 2 miles in. I wasn't sure I would make it to the bathroom, it was a close call.
| | Walked around my neighborhood today but was feeling sore and unmotivated to run.
| | I'm now feeling really huge all of a sudden and finding it hard to get out and run.
| | I felt good running today. I was worried I was going to have to start winding down my running for the rest of my pregnancy. But today went well.
| | I ran on the treadmill at the gym today. I had some "hicks" kicking up so I switched to the bike for a little while.

| | I went to the gym and started off on the bike because the treadmills were being used. I did 20 minutes on the bike then was able to switch to the treadmill. I was feeling good today, no braxton hicks or other pregnancy pains so I decided to do a 1 mile time trial. I just wanted to see if I could still feel good running one mile under 8 minute pace. I warmed up one mile, then did a faster mile on the treadmill, I put the treadmill at 1.5% incline and boosted the speed up to 7:30 pace. I ran the majority of the run at 7:30 pace then the last .3 at 6:58 pace. I didn't pay to much attention to time but I think I was around 7:20ish for my fast mile. Cooled down one more mile after that.As soon as I stopped running I suddenly had to pee and almost went in my shorts. Close call. I was pretty happy with the mile, I felt good and in control. (28-29 weeks preggo)

| | I ran on the treadmill today at the gym. I would've run longer but the kids area was getting to chaotic and I didn't want my two year old to get destroyed. Schools out and there were more kids around today. I did do a faster mile again on the treadmill today, I think I'll try to do this once a week from now on. I put the treadmill at 1.5% incline then did a two mile warm up, 7:04 flat mile, then one mile cool down.

| | After a week I managed to climb on a treadmill and walk/jog. 30 weeks preggo. We're gettin' there.

| | We went to the gym today for our last day of running in 2014. I did 2 miles then did a faster mile in 7:12. Then 1 mile cool down. I was getting a lot of pains my last mile so a lot of it was fast walking/jogging. Then I did 20 minutes on the bike.
