This was not my best race. This was my first bad race of the year. The last three weeks I'd been struggling and I didn't have high hopes for this race. Katie stayed with me at my grandparents house and we rode to buses where we met up with Sariah. We got there and felt the wind blowing and I realized Riley was right, there was going to be a headwind in the canyon today. He says this happens every so often and it happened to be race day that it happened. We did a two mile warm up and some strides. I didn't wear my watch again hoping that would help me like it did at Ogden half (it did not). I ran with a girl for the first four miles she said that our first mile was 6:24 and our second was 6:35. Those are the only splits I know. I felt OK while I was running through the canyon but I could feel I wasn't running as fast as Ogden a couple weeks ago. I tried picking people off in the canyon but they were all to far ahead. I got one guy in a green shirt. Out of the canyon around mile 8 I got a massive side ache, I was nursing it for the next mile and it caused me to slow down way to much. It was painful and it now effected my time even worse. So I turned my race into a faster long run at that point and basically just finished. Not a good day for me but hopefully I can come back from it soon. I did a mile cool down with Katie and then another mile by myself so I could meet up with Riley and cheer for the marathoners.

I'll join too, can I please. There is actually a headwind most days in the canyon. It a really lucky day to get a tailwind.

Sorry about the tough day Amy. I hate side aches so bad they really make it hard to go. Way to push through it and finish it despite not feeling great.

I am sorry you did not have a great day Amy. But I do think this is a realistic MP for you. So I'm glad you were able to take a not so great race and use it as an awesome tempo run.
